چکیده

It will come as no surprise that learning is said to be accomplished most effectively when it is "goal orientated, contextual, interesting, challenging, and interactive" (Quinn 2005a). The assessment of learning is inextricably linked to learning (Hargreaves 1997) and if education is to be successful it is crucial that the perspectives of learner, knowledge, assessment and community are aligned (Bransford et al 2000a). Thus, one is justified in proposing that assessment is also most effective when "goal orientated, contextual, interesting, challenging, and interactive"; the very characteristics that define computer games. One can also speculate that the most effective form of assessment engages the student and "should be hard fun" in the same way that it is claimed learning ought to be (Quinn 2005a).
